There are some that use the word Master as their honorific, and what that means to them I can’t answer. I at times refer to myself as Master. I’ll explain as I go along.
When I use the honorific Master when referring to myself I’m using it to say I’ve Mastered certain things about myself as well as certain skills. As a sadist I enjoy activities that hurt, cause pain, and may even cause someone to cry out for their mommy.
Because of this I’ve made it my business to learn how things work. A single tail, flogger or cane can and will do damage, that might have someone trying to explain to the attending emergency room doctor what happened.
That is not sexy
Many who call themselves Master may look at a flogger or whip and say, “how hard could that be?” Some may even go as far as to see these things at work in a dark play space, and think, “how hard could that be?” Others like my self look at floggers or whips and say, “that looks like fun. I want to learn how to do that.”
Some people, hopefully more then not realize that some activities that get us moist are very dangerous. The danger is not just to the person getting hit, but to the person doing the hitting. Imagine the feel of a piece of kangaroo leather or cowhide in the wrong hands?
I’ll say it again that’s not sexy.
Learning to use your toys correctly in a way that is enjoyable not only you but to your partner.
Now that is sexy.
It is not only the responsibility of the one calling themselves Master to master these things, but it is also the responsibility of the one who wants to have these things used on them, the bottom.I think bottoms should learn how things work. Or at the very lest see it in action. I’m not saying that bottoms after learning about a particuliar activity will automatically become masters. That may not be their calling, but they should be responsible for things that happen to them. And they will have a better idea of how a thing works, not only how it feels.
If one who calls themselves a Master they should have to master not only the toys they want to play with. They should also have a handle on mastering themselves, which in its self is the most important skill.

Hell yea! Well said!
