Expectation: The act or state of expecting, to wait in expectation.
The act or state of looking forward or anticipation.
I’ve been reminded recently that expectations are a sure way of being disappointed. I’m a woman of a certain age, so I already know this and have in the past come across this kind of disappointment. This being true I believe there are healthy and unhealthy expectations in different situations. Do I expect people to move to the side of the train to let people off, before they go running to get a sit? Yes. Will it happen anytime soon? If you believe so, you will be sourly disappointed as I am here in New York.
But if you or I am trying to build any kind of ship, friendship, relationship, fuckship, you would expect certain things, hence expectations, on both sides. It may take a couple of times being in their company to determine if the person is worth your time. Are they who they say they are, are there things you both share in common? You have to go by people’s deeds and actions. No one can keep up a front for to long and shit will come to the light. To which another expectation comes into play. That being, to continue to be their friend, lover or fuck buddy. People live with expectation all the time, whether they want to admit it or not, they do on some level. In life shit happens, we all expect it.
Even in the days of people having pet rocks there was a level of expectation. The rock was their pet low maintenance, but their pet. And as long as they did not expect the rock to roll over, fetch or shit in the house their expectation was met.
